TB Skin Test Edmonton: What Students Need to Know Before Their Clinical Placements

Need a 2-step TB skin test for school or clinical placements? Atlas Immunization has been helping students in Edmonton for over 20 years. Fast, reliable, and school-form ready.

What Is a TB Skin Test (and Why Do Students Need It)?

If you're a student preparing for a nursing, health care aide, early childhood education, or any clinical program, one of the first things you'll need is a TB skin test—and often, a 2-step test at that.

The TB skin test (or Mantoux test) checks whether you’ve been exposed to tuberculosis. While tuberculosis is rare in Canada, health care students are often required to show they’re not at risk before starting placement.

Many students find the process confusing, especially if this is their first time dealing with medical forms, vaccines, and school immunization requirements. That’s where we come in.

We've Been Helping Students Like You for Over 20 Years

At Atlas Immunization, we’ve helped thousands of students across NAIT, NorQuest, MacEwan, CDI, Robertson, University of Alberta, Concordia, and other Alberta and Canadian programs. Whether you’re applying for your nursing program and need a TB test and immunization updates, starting a clinical placement with a looming deadline, or coming back to school after a break—we’ve seen it all. We walk you through every step with patience, expertise, and no judgment.

What’s the Difference Between a 1-Step and 2-Step TB Test?

If you’ve never had a TB skin test before (or not in the last 12 months), you likely need the 2-step version.

1-Step TB Test: 1 injection, return in 48–72 hours for results.
2-Step TB Test: First test + result in 48–72 hrs, then repeat 7–21 days later + final reading.

Many students don’t realize the full TB test process can take 10–14 days to complete—so book early!

When Should You Book Your TB Skin Test in Edmonton?

Book at least 4–6 weeks in advance to give yourself enough time for both TB test steps, missing vaccines or bloodwork, and school form completion. Atlas Immunization offers daytime and evening appointments, and we try to accommodate urgent requests whenever possible.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

Bring your school immunization form, any past vaccine records, ID, and wear a short-sleeve shirt. No referral is needed—we’ll walk you through what’s missing.

We’ll Complete Your School Vaccine Forms On Site

We’re familiar with most school forms across the country. We’ll make sure your form is filled out properly so you don’t risk placement delays.

Why Students and Institutions Recommend Atlas Immunization

What If You Need Proof of Immunity?

Some schools want serology (bloodwork) to prove immunity for Hep B, MMR, or Varicella. We offer on-site blood requistions forms, tb chest xray referrals etc.

For Students Doing Canadian or International Placements

If you're doing a clinical placement in another province or country, requirements may differ. We regularly help students preparing for placements across Canada and internationally. This may include additional documentation, chest x-rays, or vaccines like Yellow Fever or Typhoid. We tailor our services based on your placement location and provide all required certifications.

Is there a cost?

Yes, Alberta Health Care does not cover immunizations or testing for school programs unless you have been assessed if you’re eligible for provincially funded vaccines.
